While PS5 and Xbox Fans Bicker, Nintendo Community is So God Damn Loyal It Took 200 Days for the Last 3DS Player to Leave after Server Shut Down
How the PlayStation consoles stack up against the lineup of Xbox consoles that have continued to evolve over the years has been a subject of debate among gamers time and time again across multiple forums. This won’t change in the foreseeable future either, given how polarizing opinions on both sides of the aisle can be when it comes to each platform’s offerings.
While the fan bases of both these consoles continue to argue about the best platform, the Nintendo community lives in its own sphere. Seriously, it’s the most loyal player base you’ll ever come across. Some of these players went to the next level and kept the Nintendo 3Ds servers alive for way longer than they were supposed to!
Last 3DS Player Loses Connection 200 Days After Servers Went Offline
Last year, Nintendo decided to shut down the eShops for Nintendo 3Ds and Wii U, which caused massive outrage in the community. However, things got even worse when the Japanese company took down the online services for both consoles this year. It was a sad moment but something players had been expecting for a while.
However, users Fishguy6564 and Marioiscool246 managed to find a workaround to hang onto the servers. This was done by using a patch that prevented a lobby from being turned off, which could allow both users to race each other endlessly. Earlier this year, Marioiscool246’s 3DS crashed, leaving Fishguy6564’s bot all by itself.
Unfortunately, even Fishguy6564’s impressive run came to an end today, as after 210 days, the servers were taken down, crashing his 3Ds.
With this 3DS now offline, there’s basically no way of playing the legendary console’s titles online anymore, which leaves multiple modes and features unplayable.
Sadly, Nintendo doesn’t have any plans of porting these games to Switch either, but the fact that the community went to these lengths to protect the 3DS just shows us the dedication players have.
Unlike its competition, Nintendo has given us some timeless masterpieces that have captured the attention of millions of gamers. As long as the studio keeps producing such games, players will do anything in their power to extend their longevity.
Nintendo Switch Online Still Needs Improvement
With how Nintendo is bent upon shutting down online services for its old consoles, you’d think that the company is investing those resources into the betterment of Switch’s online services. However, that’s not the case.
When you hop onto an online title on Xbox or PlayStation, the experience is as seamless and integrated as it gets; an invite directly from your friends list is all that takes you to get into a multiplayer game.
However, things are different for Nintendo as players must send an invite code to other players in order to share a game with them. The network stability issues make things worse as people often get kicked from a game due to unreliable connection, forcing them to get a new code and start all over again.
Nintendo Switch Online features a terrible user experience as it lacks basic features. There’s still no party system or friends invite list that can be found on other rival consoles. The absence of an integrated voice is also quite frustrating. Sure, you can use the Switch Online mobile app to chat with friends, but it’s way too complicated to use an essential feature and offers no benefits.
Let’s hope that with the upcoming Switch successor, Nintendo can finally address these issues and bring the service to modern-day standards.
