Who are the moderators for the vice presidential debate Tuesday?
Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz are set to face off Tuesday night in the first and only vice presidential debate of the 2024 election.
The debate may also be the last overall before next month’s election, as former president Donald Trump has declined Vice President Kamala Harris’s invitation to a second presidential debate. The two had their own debate in early September in Pennsylvania.
Ahead of the VP debate, here’s what to know about the moderators, the debate rules and how to watch from Wisconsin.

Who are the vice presidential debate moderators?
The debate will be moderated by “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” moderator and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.
O’Donnell has covered seven presidential elections as a journalist. In her five years as “CBS Evening News Anchor,” she has covered the COVID-19 pandemic, reported on-the-ground from the Middle East and interviewed Pope Francis. In July, O’Donnell announced she would leave her anchor position after the 2024 election.
Brennan is also no stranger to presidential politics: she has interviewed both Trump and President Biden for CBS’s “Face the Nation.” As a foreign affairs correspondent, she has reported in Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan and covered topics ranging from nuclear negotiations to the conflict in Ukraine.

When is the vice presidential debate?
Vance and Walz will debate starting at 8 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The debate is scheduled to run for 90 minutes with two commercial breaks.
Where is the vice presidential debate?
The debate will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.
How to watch the vice presidential debate
The debate will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network and live streamed on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+ are available. In Milwaukee, CBS News is channel 58 and in Madison, channel 3000.
CBS is also making the debate available to simulcast, meaning other networks will carry it live as well. ABC News, Fox News and NBC News will all be broadcasting the program.

What are the vice presidential debate rules?
Here are the rules for Tuesday’s VP debate, according to USA TODAY:
Both candidates’ microphones will remain live throughout the debate. That’s a rule change from the September presidential debate, when Harris’s and Trump’s microphones were muted when the other candidate was speaking.
The candidates will be standing behind podiums, with Walz on the right side of the television screen and Vance on the left. In previous vice presidential debates, including Harris’s 2020 face-off against Mike Pence, the VP candidates have been seated during the debate.
Candidates will have two minutes to answer questions asked by the moderators. The other candidate will have two minutes to respond, and then each candidate will get an additional one minute for further rebuttals.
Both candidates will have the chance to deliver a two-minute closing statement. Walz will go first and Vance second, after the Republican nominee won the coin toss to determine order.
Candidates will not receive questions in advance, nor are they allowed to bring pre-written notes or props on the stage with them. However, each candidate will have a pen, pad of paper and bottle of water at their podium.
