Why Now Is the Perfect Time For Insomniac To Show Off More Wolverine

Insomniac Games has made a name for itself after developing a handful of unique video games like Ratchet and Clank and perfectly adapting one of the most popular superheroes into a much more interactive format. Unfortunately, greatness comes at a cost, and the studio suffered major leaks a few months ago.

After the success of the Spider-Man games, the gaming community is waiting for the developers to expand the original shared universe by introducing other heroes like Wolverine. Leaked gameplay footage was shared and the developers tried to shake it off; however, enough time has passed and it is high time for new content.

Recent rumors from trusted insiders suggest that PlayStation is gearing up to reveal more upcoming first-party games for the PlayStation 5. Chief among them is none other than the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine project. The initial announcement trailer was released three years ago and the game developers have been radio silent since then until terabytes of data and personal information by staff were leaked online.

While the gameplay footage was raw and far from complete without the proper textures, assets, and whatnot, fans immediately turned on the developers rather than supporting them by not reacting or sharing content that was not meant to be seen by consumers and was meant to be kept under wraps.

The game developers could expand the existing universe and branch out further for more opportunities to adapt fan-favorite storylines from the source material. Perhaps a crossover between the Spider-Men and Wolverine with a handful of the X-Men could be something worth exploring in a future project once the road map is complete.

Insomniac Games struggled to keep its head high after watching years of hard work butchered and ridiculed online. It is an unfortunate hand to be dealt with; however, the studio did not falter and continued working on the project, and the team could have something ready to share with the gaming community. The PlayStation 5 is nearly half a decade old, and it is time to see first-party games reserved for the second half to blow the fans away.

The superhero genre is entering a new age, especially with how live-action films are faring nowadays and fans can see a dip in quality or maybe even superhero fatigue. The X-Men and Mutants, in general, are slowly making a comeback in the best way possible. From the revived animated series on Disney Plus to the return of Hugh Jackman in live-action and potentially future Avengers films, it would make sense for Marvel and Disney to take these characters into other formats like gaming.

Perhaps the game developers should shift their focus toward this upcoming project, especially after the studio confirmed that there are no active plans for new additional story content for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

While the gaming community may want more content or activities to do with Peter Parker or Miles Morales, it is time for another hero to take center stage while the game developers are setting the groundwork for the next major sequel, which could likely be the final chapter to wrap up the Spider-Man trilogy, or retire Peter Parker and have Miles Morales formally become the one and only Spider-Man leading the franchise.

Marvel’s Wolverine Could Bring Back the Hype for the PlayStation Brand

The game developers once mentioned that the production for Marvel’s Wolverine is going well and they have the opportunity to pull another surprise akin to what Sucker Punch Productions did with Ghost of Yotei during the previous State of Play. It has been a while since PlayStation Studios announced any upcoming projects for the PS5, and this game could usher in a new era.

While the most recent Spider-Man game was great, it did not land the bird the way most fans wanted and is not looking good for Insomniac Games. Nevertheless, it would be unwise to underestimate the talent of the developers behind great games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and just because a game did not pan out the way one expected, it does not automatically mean or reflect the overall quality.

There has been barely any major first-party exclusive released this year apart from Astro Bot from Team ASOBI, a remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2, and a critically acclaimed and universally praised timed exclusive like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The gaming community is tired of waiting to hear the next major projects of major hitters like Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac Games might have to step up and show something.

The level of cultural impact other PlayStation franchises have made, such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon, Uncharted, The Last of Us, and many more, have established a certain level of expectations from the fans; unfortunately, Sony can’t keep up and force these studios to present something they are not proud of yet and release major games every other year, unlike the late stage PlayStation 4 cycle. However, enough time has passed, and the exclusive drought might be coming to an end.

The PlayStation brand has asserted its dominance across the gaming community due to its impressive library of first-party games made by the best in the business. The gaming community can hold onto the level of quality seen in the Spider-Man games as an indication of how the upcoming Wolverine project will look and play on the PlayStation 5.

After the success of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine and the recent surge of the X-Men’s popularity through the revived X-Men ’97 animated series on Disney Plus, the world will likely gobble up any related content, and Insomniac Games can take advantage of the hype.
