Why WA children’s reading rates among Australia’s worst

Australian children are reading for pleasure less than they used to, and WA kids are among the most reluctant readers.

Between 2018 and 2022 the percentage of Australian children reading for pleasure fell from 79 per cent to 72 per cent, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In WA it was even worse, down from 79 per cent to 71 per cent.
