Wimbledon 2024 live updates: Carlos Alcaraz two sets up on Novak Djokovic in men’s final today
Novak Djokovic 2-6, 2-6, 1-1 Carlos Alcaraz*
Carlos, that is absurd. Djokovic pings it into the top-left corner and that’s a winner against most tennis players. But, again, Alcaraz is not most tennis players.
A genuinely otherworldly passing forehand down the line from well outside the court. Shot of the match? And again! He sends an absolutely snorting backhand down the line for 0-30 and a sniff of a break.
15-30, though, as Novak responds to a good drop shot with a great one. Alcaraz gets there, of course he does, but even he can’t get it back over. Ace for 30-all, stubborn response from the Serb.
But, perhaps knowing how good his drop shots need to be to best Carlos, Novak goes a little short, a little underdone, into the net. 30-40, break point, but deuce! More like it from Djokovic, who comes to the net and booms away an overhand smash with aplomb.
Advantage Alcaraz, who returns a good serve well, then as Novak puts him into the corner and comes to the net, Alcaraz whips a fruity forehand winner beyond him. A magnificent passing shot. He pumps his fist in celebration and whips the crowd up too, for good measure.
But we’re back at second deuce, and then an ace. Advantage Novak…
