Wukong Compatibility Issues Were a Big Fat Lie
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is knocking at the door. This upcoming action-adventure title is set to be released on December 9, 2024, on Windows and Xbox Series X/S, with a later release on the PlayStation 5 in 2025.
The game is set between the original narratives of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where Indy embarks upon a journey to find the mysteries of the Great Circle. By the looks of the game, it has great potential to be a huge success. Not only that, the game is going to be released on a popular platform, where Black Myth: Wukong is still missing out.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is Going to Run at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X/S
The recently released popular title, Black Myth: Wukong, hasn’t yet been released on Xbox because of its compatibility issue with the Series S, just like Enotria: The Last Song.
However, that is not the case with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Recently, the creative director of the game, Axel Torvenius, has confirmed that the game is going to have 60 FPS on both Xbox Series X and S as well. This is what he stated to Windows Central:
It might be that we will release even more details in terms of specifics, technical details, as we get closer to launch, once we see all the telemetry on performance. But what I can tell you is that the ambition is that the game runs at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and that, you know, it shouldn’t be compromised in the visuals or the experience of the product. It should feel cohesive, running smoothly at 60 on both.
Xbox has a parity release clause where if any game wants to be released on the platform, the developers have to make sure that the title is compatible with both Series X and S. Xbox X was never a problem for the developers, as the console is hugely powerful to run any modern AAA title.
The problem comes when highly graphics-demanding games come to the Series S, as this console is quite old and not well optimized for the current generation titles. That is why Black Myth: Wukong is not on Xbox.
Black Myth: Wukong Is Yet to Be Released on Xbox
Black Myth: Wukong has won everyone’s hearts since its launch. This game has sold more than 10 million copies across the globe in just three days of its release. Not only that, the game shattered all the records on Steam and became the most-played single-player game on the platform, with more than 2.4 million concurrent players and still at the top of the list of top-selling games.
Still, the game is not available on Xbox. The reason for this game being delayed on Xbox is its optimization issues on the Series S. In the past, we have already seen how this lower-gen console has fallen behind running newer-gen titles, the most recent example being Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Chinese development team has been facing this issue since June and addressed it as it was “currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards” in a Forbes article.
However, if that is the case, then there’s no way the upcoming Indiana Jones is going to run on Xbox Series S; forget getting 60 FPS, as the upcoming title is way more graphically intensive than the Game Science title. That means the issue is not from Microsoft’s end; it is the responsibility of Game Science and Sony.
