Xbox President Sarah Bond’s Comment on Shutting Down 4 Studios is as Hypocritical as it Gets
The upset against Microsoft’s Xbox continues to grow every day as the company is seemingly putting in less effort than ever on damage controlling the entire situation. Since it was revealed that 4 beloved gaming studios have been shut down after they were recently acquired by the company, they have been unfortunately delivering statements that while given in good faith, end up coming off as hypocritical.
This time around, it is none other than Sarah Bond, the President of Xbox herself, who has directly remarked about the company choosing to shut down the four gaming studios. She has revealed what exactly was the motive behind taking such a step, and why it was deemed necessary at this point.
Appearing in an interview via Bloomberg, Sarah Bond made a statement about the current trends of the gaming industry, mentioning how it has fallen ‘flat‘ and has stopped growing at the moment. When asked to comment upon the giant’s decision to shut down the aforementioned gaming studios, Bond replied-
“We feel a deep responsbility to ensure that the games we make, the devices we build, the services that we offer are there through moments, even when the industry isn’t growing and when you’re through a time of transition. And the news we announced earlier this week is an outcome of that. And our commitment to make sure that the business is healthy for the long term”
The president ultimately disclosed how the company strives to deliver to its users even when the gaming industry is not in a growing stage and is transitioning at the time. However, what follows is the statement that might just be enough to start an uproar once again, as Bond reveals shutting down the studios was an outcome of the above motto, and the ultimate motive is to keep the business healthy ‘for the long term‘.
Judging by how the fans have been reacting so far, it would be easy to say how Microsoft’s decision has proved to be a mistake, and many hope they will soon choose to do the right thing and reinstate the said developing houses. An instance of how it would ultimately be beneficial to the company can be understood by looking at how the studio revealed it needs titles that bring in prestige.
In an internal meeting headed by the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, it was implied that there was a need for more titles much like Hi-Fi Rush that would bring in “prestige and awards” for the company. If Microsoft ultimately chooses to reinstate the aforementioned makers of the game, there is no doubt that this objective will be completed in no time, as studios like Tango Gamworks are seasoned veterans in this field.
The future fortunately remains untold for now, and with the players putting in efforts to reverse review-bomb the aforementioned title, there might just be a sliver of hope still left in the user base as they expect this would be enough to convince the giant to go back on their decision.
Hi-Fi Rush is available to purchase on Steam.
