Your iPhone Is About to Get an Awesome New Charging Feature

According to reports, Apple is gearing up to roll out a neat charging feature to iPhones.

With iOS 18, Apple already gave the newest iPhones — specifically, iPhone 15 or 16 models — a convenient new charging feature.

It’s called Charge Limit and, as its name suggests, lets you set a charging limit less than 100 percent so your iPhone doesn’t fully charge. This is beneficial for the long-term health of your iPhone’s battery.

Now, it appears Apple is gearing up to roll out another iPhone charging feature. Only this time, it’s aimed to save you time.

It’s called “BatteryIntelligence”

As first spotted by 9to5Mac, there’s code in the second beta of iOS 18.2 for a feature called “BatteryIntelligence.” It promises to give you an estimate of how much time it’s going to take your iPhone to fully charge (or reach the charge limit that you’ve set).

When you start charging your iPhone, you’ll get a notification that gives you an estimated charging time. This way, you’ll know exactly how long the iPhone is going to take to charge and therefore be able to plan around it.

Obviously, this promises to be helpful when charging your iPhone at home, but it could also come especially in handy when using a unfamiliar charger (plus adapter and cable) as it might not be as fast. Your iPhone will automatically detect how much charge its receiving and calculate how much time it’ll need to fully charge.

A number of Android smartphones have had a similar feature for some time, but this promises to be the first time something similar comes to iPhone.

When’s it coming?

We’re not exactly sure.

The feature is not in the current public beta of iOS 18.2 — it’s just buried as code and currently disabled. This means that it could appear in a future iOS 18 beta, but it probably won’t come in the next software update, iOS 18.2, that’s expected in early December.

As for which iPhones it’ll work with, we’re not exactly sure, either. There’s a good change that it’ll be similar to Charge Limit and only work on new iPhones. If it’s an Apple Intelligence feature, it’ll only work with the iPhone 16s and the Pro-model iPhone 15s.
