3 cars trying to start street takeover slam into Metro bus in South L.A.

Editor’s note: The headline of this story was edited to reflect that the vehicles trying to start the street takeover collided with the bus.

Three cars attempting to start a street takeover crashed into a Metro bus in L.A.’s Vermont Vista neighborhood overnight.

Video from the scene shows the mangled vehicles – including one that had been turned on its side – in front of the bus at the crash site, located near the intersection of South Figueroa Street and Century Boulevard.

A Los Angeles Police Department official told KTLA that the three vehicles involved in the collision, which occurred just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, were attempting to start a street takeover.

After the crash, all three drivers fled the area.

In a statement provided to KTLA later Monday morning, a Metro spokesperson said that the bus was stopped at a red light when the collision occurred.

“A Metro Line 81 bus was waiting at a red traffic signal behind a vehicle [when] a third vehicle attempting to make a left turn collided with the vehicle, pushing it in front of the bus,” the spokesperson said.”We are grateful that our bus operator and passengers were not injured as a result of a high-speed street accident last night.”
