5 Reasons Why GTA 6’s Rumored $100 Price Tag Seems Justified

Rockstar Games is going all out with the highly anticipated launch of GTA 6 next year on May 26. While the rumored price tag of $100 is steep for a video game, it’s worth remembering that this is Rockstar Games we’re talking about, the same studio behind Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5. So, here are five reasons why GTA 6’s rumored $100 price tag seems justified.

1 The Biggest Evolution in the Series

GTA 6 is already confirmed to be the “most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet“, according to Rockstar themselves, and it will undoubtedly be the biggest video game launch of all time. Additionally, it’s also gearing up to be the most advanced game ever with next-gen NPCs, ultra-realistic physics, insane visuals and ray-tracing, a colossal open world, explorable interiors and more.

The fact that Trailer 2 was running on a base PS5 just proves that no one does it like Rockstar. Apart from that, Rockstar’s enormous open worlds are always brimming with content, be it main missions, activities, or random quests that pop up, and the case won’t be different for GTA 6. So, the amount of content that players will receive for $100 is huge, and pair that with a long story, and you have a complete package.

2 A Ridiculously High Development Cost

It’s not unknown that GTA 6’s development cost is ridiculously high, with it being estimated to be over $1 billion, and judging from the trailers, it seems apparent. The amount of life and detail put into the gorgeous state of Leonida is simply unmatched in terms of scale. It’s an ambitious project, and regardless of the $100 price tag, GTA 6 is all but confirmed to have the biggest video game launch in history.

Plus, a $100 price tag compared to that budget seems trivial, and if they compromise on the right price tag for the game, then the studio might not pump out the same level of quality that it has previously in future GTA titles. They will break even quickly after launch, undoubtedly, but the $100 price tag will also guarantee that the studio never deviates from the standard they’ve set.

3 A New and Enhanced GTA Online

GTA Online was released shortly after GTA 5 launched, but with GTA 6, Rockstar may just launch both single-player and multiplayer together. If that does happen, then the rumored $100 price tag becomes even more justified as the Online part is a AAA multiplayer game in itself, with loads of content and game modes.

Imagine GTA Online but better, with higher fidelity visuals, enhanced physics, new content, game modes, and more. So, for $100, you’re essentially getting two AAA titles in one impressive package, not to mention the continuous support and updates GTA Online has received since launch, which brings us to the next point.

4 Continuous Support and Updates

People still play GTA 5 and GTA Online over a decade after its release, so if you think that Rockstar will be done with GTA 6 months after releasing the game, think again. GTA Online is still being supported to this day, and the new Online mode that comes out with GTA 6 will also likely receive the same level of support.

Paying $100 for a game that will have long-term support and exceptional longevity seems reasonable. Rockstar has always been known for delivering compelling stories, and with GTA Online, they’ve also proven their ability to handle multiplayer with continuous updates spanning years. We just hope that GTA 6 has some single-player DLCs too — something that was notably missing from GTA 5.

5 Inflation Will Contribute to the Price Tag

Rockstar’s not responsible for rising video game prices — inflation is, and nowadays, incredibly high prices are what’s putting off players from purchasing titles day 1. However, Rockstar is one of the few gaming studios from the 2000s that can actually dish out impeccable quality titles that feel worth $100.

From huge open worlds, diverse mechanics, compelling narratives, to unfathomable attention to detail, Rockstar has it all, and GTA 6 won’t deviate in any of those departments. AAA titles aren’t being released below $70, with a handful being the exceptions, and Rockstar will follow suit. But their quality will speak louder than the price tag when the time arrives, that’s for certain.
