Arkham Asylum Fans Still Can’t Get Over its Best Scene That Was a Nightmare for Every Gamer as Game Turns 15

Batman: Arkham Asylum has been released in the past 15 years and to this day, the gaming community still fondly remembers the game, and it is a testament to its quality for standing against the test of time. The game developers of Rocksteady Games were ambitious and did not hold back working on the project and integrated ideas that were not commonly seen in previous superhero video games.

The developers wanted the players to experience a different level of fear. Playing as the Caped Crusader is not scary enough and the studio took it to a whole new level with one surprise that made everyone panic instead of grin.

Fans Recall One Moment in Arkham Asylum That Will Forever Remain a Batman Hall of Famer Moment

The gaming community loves surprises, especially the ones they never saw coming or drops when they least expect it. 15 years ago, Rocksteady Games released the first of three games of arguably one of the greatest superhero trilogies in the video game format ever. To this day, fans often refer to the iconic game crash scene of Batman: Arkham Asylum and use it as a metric for modern games like Thor resurrecting Kratos from God of War Ragnarok.

The developers of Rocksteady Games were way ahead of their time and pushed the envelope of horror and terror. Fans recall the moment the game seemingly froze on their screens and crashed making them nervous about breaking their expensive gaming consoles when it was all part of an elaborate scheme orchestrated by the developers to make players feel as if they were filling in the shoes of the Dark Knight.

It was an ambitious move at the time, shifting perspectives from Batman to taking control of the Clown Prince of Crime himself, Joker, and Harley Quinn. No one saw this twist coming and it perfectly plays into the game’s theme and evokes the emotion the developers intended without breaking immersion.

This moment will forever be etched into the minds of younger players who went through a traumatizing phase. It is not often Batman gets jumped by his most iconic and greatest foes and players take over the stick once it happens.

The Game Developers Should Have Focused on Batman Instead

The Arkham Trilogy was a tremendous success and the developers have set the bar high for a superhero video game. Unfortunately, the studio was caught up with the live service fever and developed Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and decided to canonize the events of the Arkhamverse.

Spoilers ahead for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Members of the Justice League were overpowered and manipulated by Brainiac, including Batman, and the team had to remove all of them from the equation. The developers also seem to ignore obvious plot holes in their wake of rushed production making fans all the more confused.

Fans expressed their disappointment explicitly about how this game butchered the Arkham trilogy and tainted the legacy of the late Kevin Conroy. Nevertheless, fans can revisit these timeless gems whenever they feel like it.

Rocksteady Games had a great thing going years ago but decided to take a different approach and ruin one of their greatest achievements. Fans are clamoring for another experience akin to the freezing screen of Arkham Asylum.
