Arrowhead CEO Hints All New Weapons Are Coming To Helldivers 2, Wants Artists With Military Service For Super Earth

Helldivers 2, the hugely popular co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, is still faring extremely well with players even 5 weeks after launch. With the recent Cutting Edge Warbonds update adding mechs and new weapons, it seems Arrowhead will continue to add compelling content to the game.

A recent statement by CEO Johan Pilestedt seemingly proves their pursuit of adding new content. Pilestedt hinted at an arsenal of all-new weaponry coming to the third-person co-op shooter in the near future.

Real-world Military Experience Coming To Helldivers 2

Pilestedt posted on X/Twitter today about some vacancies at Arrowhead for concept artists.

The specific requirements for new weapon artists suggest that the studio may be focusing on adding a lot of new weapons in the future. The emphasis on military service and real-world weapon experience speaks to a desire for a more grounded and realistic approach to the game’s arsenal.

This doesn’t necessarily mean a departure from the game’s hilarious nature. Instead, it could indicate a move towards a satirical take on modern military technology, with players wielding outlandish variants of real-world weaponry.

As Helldivers 2 continues to grow as a live service game, Arrowhead will have to grow in accordance as well. Seeking concept artists with military experience and a deep understanding of firearms would be valuable assets to design weapons for the inter-galactic war.

Of course, there’s always the chance that Pilestedt is simply looking for someone who can perfectly capture the look and feel of real-world weaponry, while still maintaining the series’ signature wacky elements.

A weapon concept artist with military experience would undoubtedly possess a unique perspective on how to translate the technical aspects of firearms into visually appealing and believable in-game designs.

Arrowhead’s commitment to Helldivers 2 has been faultless, whether it was working day and night behind-the-scenes to fix the server issues at launch, or seeking out an artist with a unique blend of artistic talent and real-world military knowledge to lay the groundwork for a brand-new arsenal of weapons that promises to spread democracy ever so effectively.

Only time, and the ingenuity of Arrowhead’s new weapon artists, will tell whether these new firearms will be grounded in realism or hilariously over-the-top. One thing’s for sure, though, there’s no better studio than Arrowhead to back Helldivers 2 and its players fighting to rid the galaxy of its invaders.
