Dark Souls 3 Archthrones Mod Borrows Heavily from Another Hidetaka Miyazaki Soulslike Game That is Cursed to Never Hit PC, Xbox
Fans have been eagerly waiting for the fourth installment in the Dark Souls franchise as it has been 8 years since the release of 2016’s Dark Souls 3. After Dark Souls 3, FromSoftware indeed released many exciting video games such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring, however, the Dark Souls franchise has been special for some fans and it certainly needs an update.
Some die-hard fans of the franchise got tired of waiting and decided to release a mod for Dark Souls 3, which isn’t any less than a sequel. The community-developed mod, Dark Souls: Archthrones, is a huge mod for Dark Souls 3 on PC, that is set before the events of Dark Souls 3 and includes five “new and reimagined” worlds, 17 boss fights, and tons of new armor sets, new NPCs, side quests, game mechanics, and more. The demo is officially out which allows gamers to get a glimpse of what the mod is going to be like.
Dark Souls 3 mod, Dark Souls: Archthrones, is a blend of Elden Ring and Bloodborne
A huge mod has been developed for FromSoftware’s Dark Souls 3 that has been labeled as Dark Souls 4 by many gamers. This mod, Dark Souls: Archthrones, serves as a prequel to Dark Souls 3, featuring five new worlds, many new boss fights, new armor sets, new NPCs, side quests, updated game mechanics, and more. Gamers can only download this mod’s demo on PC for free on Nexus. Your PC must meet these minimum specifications in order to run the game:
Processor: Intel Core i5-9400F
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
RAM: 4 GB memory
Storage: 12 GB
Operating System: Windows or Linux (Works on Steam Deck)
The mod is a unique blend of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and Bloodborne. With this mod, PC fans can finally experience what it’s like to play Bloodborne as the game was only released on PlayStation 4.
Will fans get a Dark Souls 4?
As per Kotaku, Hidetaka Miyazaki stated in 2016 that he was done with the franchise but wouldn’t mind if someone else created the sequel,
“For me, Dark Souls III is the end – But that doesn’t mean the end for Dark Souls. If someone other than myself, like another staff member, wants to make a Dark Souls, then I don’t want to deny others from making future installments.”
So, FromSoftware may develop a Dark Souls 4 in the absence of Miyazaki, which may be a disappointment considering what happened to Dark Souls 2 when Miyazaki stepped down as the director.
As of now, the fans of the franchise aren’t fazed by the delays in Dark Souls 4 as they have many things to look forward to, particularly the Dark Souls: Archthrones mod and the highly anticipated DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, will be released in June 2024.
