Death threats towards Police Minister prompt Premier to double down on need for gun reforms
A defiant Premier has promised not to “apologise” or “back away” from strict new gun laws after a firearm-owning farmer said he could kill Police Minister Paul Papalia “in two seconds flat”.
Wheatbelt farmer Franco Varone, 54, pleaded guilty to using a phone to “menace, harass or cause offence” after he called the electorate office of Mr Papalia — who led efforts to strengthen the WA’s gun laws” — and told his staff “you can tell Paul I don’t need a gun to kill him. I can kill him in two seconds flat”.
