Emergency Crews Respond to Deadly Alaska Landslide

One person was killed and at least three injured after a landslide struck near homes in Ketchikan, in southeast Alaska, on Sunday, August 25, local officials said.

Following the landslide, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy declared a disaster and directed all state agencies to provide assistance where needed.

Footage posted to Instagram by @zimrian shows the immediate aftermath of the landslide and emergency crews arriving to the scene on Sunday. “It shook my entire building, a 12-story tower,” they told Storyful.

Evacuation orders remained in effect on Monday, officials said, adding: “There will be no activity allowed in the slide area until after the area has been cleared by geologists.” Credit: @zimrian via Storyful
