Fast-Acting Florida Deputies Rescue Jet Skier Ahead of Hurricane

Members of a sheriff’s marine unit on Florida’s Gulf Coast acted fast to rescue a man after his Jet Ski hit a submerged wall on Thursday, September 26, hours ahead of Hurricane Helene’s anticipated landfall in the region.

Footage posted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) shows the rescue unfold near Sunken Island on Thursday morning.

“Remember, with Hurricane Helene approaching, it’s best to stay off the water and keep yourself safe,” the HCSO wrote.

On Thursday morning, the National Hurricane Center warned that Helene was strengthening and expected to make landfall as a “major hurricane” in Florida’s Big Bend region by Thursday evening. Credit: @HCSOSheriff via Storyful
