Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s physical Japanese release has the wrong labels on each disc

A printing error with the physical Japanese release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth means the discs have the wrong labels on them.

As pointed out by the official Final Fantasy 7 Remake account on X, the game comes with two discs – the Data Disc and the Play Disc – but they have each other’s labels.

As such, players have to insert the disc labelled ‘Play Disc’ first (to install the data), then insert the disc labelled ‘Data Disc’ to play the game.

According to Square Enix, the error was “due to a defect in the manufacturing process at Sony Interactive Entertainment“.

It’s not yet clear if the issue has been replicated on the western releases of the game, or if it’s exclusive to Japan.
