Final Fantasy XIV is reportedly coming to mobile via Tencent

Square Enix and Tencent are reportedly planning a mobile version of hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV.

That’s according to Exputer, which claims that the mobile port is the result of a strategic alliance between the two companies, originally announced back in 2018.

So far, no project has been announced between the pair. However, earlier this year, it was claimed that Tencent cancelled an unannounced mobile game based on Square Enix’s Nier series.

High development costs, royalty fees and platform fees contributed to the decision to axe the project, according to Reuters.

Last week, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida apologized for early access issues plaguing Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion.

Problems included the Xbox version becoming unresponsive when transitioning between areas, issues with several ultimate abilities, and some animation issues.

“Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has been playing Dawntrail since the start of early access,” wrote Yoshida.

“However, I would like to offer my sincere apologies regarding the issues that we have identified and listed below. Please let me explain the status of the investigation behind their causes and the measures we plan to take to address them.”
