Starting in September, Itsuno will embark on a new chapter in his career with a new game in development. Fans of his work eagerly anticipate what this next phase will bring, though it marks the end of an era at Capcom.
Hideaki Itsuno Leaves a Lasting Legacy At Capcom
Hideaki Itsuno’s career at Capcom began in 1994, where he initially worked in the arcade division. His early projects included directing titles such as Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United by Fate. But it wasn’t long before the genius we know now came to be.

His first impact came within the fighting game genre. He directed games like Power Stone and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, both of which furthered his reputation at the time.
But it was in the action-adventure genre where Itsuno truly left his mark. He took over the troubled development of Devil May Cry 2 and steered the series back on course. His subsequent work on Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening and its special edition set new standards for stylish action games.
This is devastating. I was hoping for Devil May Cry 6 with you at the helm. However, your work at Capcom is responsible for creating work that guided me through some of the toughest years of my life and I’m very grateful for you.
Thank you, Itsuno-Sama.

Itsuno’s influence extended beyond Devil May Cry, as he also played a pivotal role in the creation of Dragon’s Dogma. Released in 2012, the game wasn’t received very well but grew in stature over the years. This eventually led to the release of its sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, earlier this year.
Where Will We See Itsuno’s Brilliance Next?
Throughout his time at Capcom, Itsuno was also involved in several other notable projects. His versatility as a director allowed him to contribute to various genres, from fighting games to action RPGs. With decades of experience under his belt, he is one of the best out there.
Thanks for giving us Dragon’s Dogma II as a parting gift.

The news of Itsuno’s departure has left many fans speculating about the future of the franchises he helped build. Devil May Cry, in particular, has thrived under his guidance, and there is uncertainty about how the series will evolve without him at the helm.
In his farewell message, Itsuno thanked his supporters for their long-term dedication to the games and characters he brought to life. He expressed his hope that fans would continue to support Capcom’s future endeavors while teasing that his next project could surpass the impact of his previous works.
While the details of his next venture remain under wraps, the community will wait for whatever is in store. Given his track record, there is little doubt that whatever he creates next will have the backing of us fans.
