‘Inspected by engineers’: Qantas flight turned around after suspected bird strike

A Qantas flight has reportedly had to turn around after a suspected bird strike.

Flight QF1078, which was bound for Mt Isa, left Brisbane Airport at 3.35pm.

However the Boeing 737-838 turned back towards Brisbane after reaching the Arcadia Valley in the Central Highlands region.

The flight landed at Brisbane airport just before 6pm after operating in a holding pattern above the South Burnett region.

A Qantas spokesperson confirmed to the Courier Mail the flight had returned to Brisbane following a suspected bird strike.

“The aircraft landed normally and is being inspected by engineers,” the spokesperson said.

“We will re-accommodate customers as soon as possible.

“We appreciate our customers’ understanding and apologise for the inconvenience.”

However the Courier Mail reported it’s understood no evidence of a bird strike was found following an inspection of the runway at Brisbane Airport.
