New showcase coming next month from Acclaim

Get September marked down on your calendars for a new showcase coming from an iconic game publisher from the 80s and 90s.

If you grew up with retro video games from before the 2000s, chances are, you may be familiar with the name Acclaim Entertainment. It keeps on disappearing and reappearing over the last few decades. This time however, Acclaim’s latest return teases their newest plans that may involve more than just revisiting classic titles:

On September 10, 2025, Acclaim will reveal new surprises, exclusive content, and announcements you won’t want to miss. This is your first glimpse of what’s ahead.

Once more, retro gamers may be more than likely familiar with Acclaim, as the publisher was behind the licensing of popular arcade or home console games including Mortal Kombat and the once dominant sports franchise NBA Jam. The revival of the iconic publisher was reported by Game Informer back in early March this year. GI further reported Acclaim’s mission also involves a shift in focus to supporting indie game studios.

This isn’t the first time the company rose from the dead, however. PC Gamer also covered Acclaim’s latest revival and mentioned that they initially fell into bankruptcy in 2004 following declining sales. Acclaim was revived shortly later as Acclaim Games, focusing on publishing free-to-play titles for several years before shutting down once more in 2010 (via Gamespot).

Even after Wednesday September 10 rolls around, time will only tell if Acclaim is be staying for good, and for how long.
