Paris Olympics 2024: West Australian Jack Robinson injured just days out from surfing competition
West Australian surfer Jack Robinson has been taken from the beach in an ambulance after falling off a wave just days before Olympic competition begins in Tahiti.
Robinson, one of the State’s top medal chances at this year’s Games, which are opened on Saturday morning, fell off a wave at the infamous Teaupo’o and sliced his foot open.
The Margaret River product was brought into shore by a jet ski and then taken to a medical facility for treatment, according to reports.
Teaupo’o is one of the world’s most perilous breaks, with Australian great Nathan Hedge revealing tackling the wave “you actually feel like you are fighting your life”.
Robinson, who is ranked No.3 in the world, last week told The Augusta Margaret River Times it was “the heaviest wave in the world”.
“It’s so gnarly, you just have to respect the wave every time you go out,” he said.
“It’s like a tsunami when it comes in”.
The men’s competition in Tahiti begins on Sunday morning (AWST).
