Shortened schedule continues this month

The Broome County Public Library is a haven for book lovers, a meeting space and community resource.

At the beginning of the summer, the downtown Binghamton library announced it had altered the hours it would be open.

The truncated schedule will now continue through the end of September.

The change, according to the library, stems from a number of vacant positions, creating a staff shortage at the Court Street building, particular at its service desks.

Broome County Public Library shortened its operating hours due to staffing shortages.

Broome’s library closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday and at 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday. Any programs scheduled after closing on those days have been cancelled.

In a statement on its website, the library said they plan to resume normal hours in October.
