Sony’s Official Rework of Bloodborne’s Yharnam Is Not What Players Had in Mind When They Asked for an Update
Bloodborne has been one of the most influential games of the last decade. It perfected the Soulsborne formula that FromSoftware is known for and became an instant classic. And for years now fans have been pleading and waiting for a re-release for the PS5 or PC to no avail.
Funnily enough, though, fans have been given a reworked look at the game, albeit in an unexpected way. The recently released, and critically acclaimed Astro Bot features a lot of cameos to iconic characters from Sony’s PlayStation games. And one of them is Bloodborne.
No Other Game Has Seen Demand For a Remake or PC Port Like Bloodborne
When Bloodborne launched in 2015, it was hailed as one of the greatest video games of all time. Players were, and continue to be in love with its gothic setting, challenging gameplay, and deep lore. But after the release of The Old Hunters expansion, Sony practically left the game in the dark.
And the radio silence has continued over the years even despite constant fan requests for remakes, updates, or any news. The community is so desperate that it has taken measures like making a PC port for the game.

Fast forward to 2024, and Sony finally acknowledged the game. But not in the way many had hoped. Astro Bot came out on 6th September 2024 with a lot of positive reviews and features several Easter eggs.

These include costumes and cameos from various PlayStation titles as a nod or a stroll through memory lane. The cameo for FromSoft’s title comes in the form of the Yharnam Hunter, a character players can unlock and use as a skin.
The Cameo Means Nothing, But Is There Still Hope For The Future?
Players have quickly started to question Sony’s intentions. Is it just a playful inclusion or a hint? According to an interview that Eurogamer had with Team Asobi’s creative director, Nicolas Doucet, there is no hidden message behind the inclusion.

It’s simply a celebration of PlayStation’s history and Team Assobi pays tribute to a whole lot of franchises besides FromSoft’s titles. While this explanation may seem disappointing to those hoping for more, it’s still heartwarming to see the game recognized as part of PlayStation’s legacy.
Even Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creative mind behind the game, has expressed his hopes for a re-release. In his interview with Eurogamer, Miyazaki admitted that he would love for more players to experience the fan-favorite game, especially since it is now somewhat “lost” on older hardware. It’s a possibility, especially since other titles might also be getting freed from old hardware soon.

In Astro Bot, players can encounter the Yharnam Hunter in a level called Funky Fungi, hidden in the Lost Galaxy world. This character is named the Yharnam Tourist and is one of several cameos from FromSoftware’s games, along with characters from Demon’s Souls.
Games like Spider-Man and God of War have already been released on PC. At first, we thought the Soulsborne title would follow soon, but that hasn’t been the case yet. But with the continued popularity of the game and the requests, it seems only a matter of time.
The rumors and speculations for a PC port or PS5 remake will never stop. But what do you think of Team Asobi’s hit game? Let us know in the comments!
