What you were seeing were revolutionary changes. Going from 8bit to 16bit or even to fully polygonal 32/64bit. What we are seeing now is evolutionary changes. Refinements to the already impressive graphics level achieved by the previous console iterations.

I knew going in that this gen would be less about what you see (draws your focus in a scene) and more about what you dont see. Which is all the little stuff you hardly paid attention to. the background detail that usually just filled up space has now gone from just being there to being more detailed and filling out the overall picture. improved physics and sound that complement the onscreen action.

This gen is better than the last, but because the last was already so good… it just doesnt seem like it.
