The game features the Destined One, also known as the mind of Sun Wukong, and his Journey to the West. This ambitious project is the ultimate dream game for Chinese mythology enthusiasts and those seeking a difficult but fulfilling combat experience akin to the iconic Soulslike series.

The gaming community believes another deity like Zhong Kui will be the perfect protagonist for a sequel given his background and the folktale lore behind this deity. Perhaps Game Science will do something insane to top this year’s entry.

Zhong Kui is known as the king of ghosts and queller of demons which has all the makings of a great protagonist for an upcoming game. The character is perfect to be featured in a video game, and the developers can dive deep into Chinese culture and infuse dark horror elements to appeal to a wider player base and gain more coverage as the franchise starts to find its footing.

Other fans were creative enough to mock up Jin Sakai, also known as the Ghost of Tsushima, wearing the armor of the Destined One. While Jin is of Japanese descent, the themes are similar since he is known to hunt evil doers tormenting his homeland and become a legend that haunts his enemies. Perhaps Game Science can take a similar approach to Zhong Kui.

Black Myth: Wukong Could Be the Start of a Much Larger and Shared Gaming Universe

Chinese mythology is rich and vast enough to be explored and adapted into other materials. The past of Zhong Kui is a tale of tragedy and great sorrow, failing to protect his title of an academic achiever because of his disfigured physical appearance, he ended his life until he was selected for a higher purpose.

Zhong Kui is the stuff of legend as people still put up posters in honor of him to fend off evil spirits. Jin’s Ghost persona encouraged his people to feel safe knowing he was there to protect them.
